Of course, fourth place in the Premier League comes with Champions League football, and Villa have not missed a beat in that competition. After three games, they sit top of the new-look league format, and have claimed a famous win over Bayern Munich already as they look to qualify for the knockout rounds at the first time of asking.

They exited the Carabao Cup at the fourth round at the hands of Crystal Palace, but that is the only blot on their copybook so far in an impressive start to the season.

On top of that, they have managed to tie down exciting striker talent Jhon Duran to a new contract. The Colombian striker was linked with a move to both West Ham and Chelsea in the summer, but ended up staying at Villa Park and his early season form has been rewarded with a contract that will now keep him in the Midlands until 2030.

Now, they are ready to continue their good work off the pitch.

Villa to offer new deals to exciting duo

That comes as new reports reveal that the Villans are prepared to offer new contracts to young English duo Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers after an impressive start to the campaign.

Rogers has started all nine of his side’s Premier League games so far this season, and has caught the eye with a series of fine performances. Ramsey, meanwhile, has only made five Premier League starts but has featured in all but one game so far this campaign, as Villa look to manage the 22-year-old following a series of injuries.

Neither Rogers nor Ramsey, who take home £20k and £70k per week respectively, are in danger of leaving for free any time soon, but Villa are keen to reward their progress with fresh terms in the Midlands.

According to the Boot Room, in the case of Rogers, “Villa have recognised his progress and are ready to hand him what sources describe as a ‘significant’ pay rise”, which could move him more in line with Ramsey’s current deal and other first team players at the club.

The Portuguese arrived in Manchester on Monday and has been since getting on with media duties and familiarising himself with players, club staff and training ground. Amorim is expected to go with his trusted 3-4-3 formation at United, and it could be that the club splashes the cash in the winter window to tailor the squad to his needs.

According to Marca, relayed by Caught Offside, Manchester United are exploring a deal to bring Alvaro Carreras back to Old Trafford. The 21-year-old started his career in Deportivo’s academy before he moved to Real Madrid, and it was from there that the Red Devils secured his services.

The left-back joined United in 2020, and during his time at Old Trafford he had loan spells at Preston, Granada CF, and Benfica. Then in the summer, Carreras was sold to the Portuguese side, leaving United without playing a single minute in the first team.

Carreras, who has been hailed for his “amazing engine and quality” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, signed a contract until 2029, but part of the deal saw United have a buy-back option, which is at €20 million, roughly £16 million. But he conceded they needed to “get tougher with our dismissals”, starting with the second innings in Melbourne.”If you look at the toss, obviously it didn’t go our way,” he said. “That’s something, we would have also looked to have bowled in that first session. Yes, we lost a couple of early wickets but the partnership between Dawid [Malan] and Joe was really good again and naturally disappointed to lose Dawid on the stroke of lunch. That potentially changes things if that [wicket] doesn’t go down there. We’re still searching for that big score, but both teams were looking to bowl on that pitch, with the help of the conditions and a tinge of green.”We’ve got to get a bit stronger and tougher with our dismissals. We know that, we’ve spoken about that. That’s just us being honest with ourselves. Raul Jimenez is undoubtedly one of the finest Wolverhampton Wanderers players in the Premier League era. The Mexican centre-forward was deadly for the Old Gold and is their all-time top goalscorer in the top flight since 1992 when the Premier League began with 41 goals.

In total, the one-time Benfica star scored 57 goals for the club in 166 games. His form was especially good before his terrible head injury against Arsenal which took him eight months to recover from. At his current club Fulham, he is beginning to look close to his best again.

The Midlands club have never really managed to replace him since his departure, and whilst Matheus Cunha has supplemented the number of goals he scored, he is more of a second striker.

That said, summer signing Jorgen Strand Larsen is someone who has been impressive this season in front of goal.

Strand Larsen’s season so far

Wolves brought Strand Larsen in from Celta Vigo in the summer, signing him on a loan deal with the obligation to buy if there are certain conditions met. He will cost the Old Gold £23m if he does make a permanent move.

So far, he has impressed in a Wolves shirt. The centre-forward has played 13 times for the club, scoring four goals and grabbing three assists. He has been fairly consistent so far. The longest he has gone this term without a goal involvement is two games. It has been a good start to life in the Midlands.

Equally, the Norweigan centre-forward is currently second on the list of most goal involvements for the Old Gold this season. Cunha is the only player with more, with a standout haul of ten goals and assists to his name already.

It will certainly be pleasing for Wolves fans to see their summer signing enjoying a good campaign so far. He is certainly stepping up now Jimenez has left the club, and they will be hoping he can continue his fine form into the festive period.

Strand Larsen’s form is encouraging, and there might well be another deadly striker at the club next season if one star who is out on loan can continue his form next season.

The player in question here is Fabio Silva. The Portuguese striker has not had an easy ride playing for the Old Gold but is enjoying life out on loan this season with La Liga side Las Palmas. He has four goals and one assist in ten games for the club so far.

Incredibly, the former Porto star is just one goal this season behind his entire tally for Wolves. He has scored five times and has six assists in 72 appearances. Given they paid £35.6m for him in 2020 as an 18-year-old, this is a disappointing return.

After several loan spells, it must be a relief for Silva to have found his best form in front of goal, and he has certainly reaped the rewards so far. The 22-year-old recently made his debut for the Portugal senior team, a 19-minute cameo against Croatia in the Nations League.

Manager Roberto Martinez was full of praise for the Wolves striker in the days leading up to his debut. He called him “a different player” to the one Old Gold fans have seen, and the fact he gave him a senior bow shows the faith he has in him.

There is perhaps still hope at Wolves that their former teenage prodigy can come good. He is on par in terms of goals this season with Strand Larsen, and if he can translate that form over to the Premier League, they would have two talented young strikers on their books, and, finally, some genuine replacements for Jimenez.
