Leeds to revisit Ryan Kent with another bid before end of transfer window

Leeds United’s brash summer of spending isn’t slowing up just yet, though they are running out of time if they are to secure any new signings…

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the Yorkshiremen are poised to submit another bid for Rangers winger Ryan Kent before the end of the transfer window in a little under two weeks time.

They claim that the Whites are well-aware of a £20m release clause within the 23-year-old’s contract and earlier this summer, they had a £10m bid knocked back by the Scottish giants.

Marcelo Bielsa is a keen admirer of the former Liverpool youngster and fits the profile of being someone who could improve under his coaching.

Winger needed?

United already have Jack Harrison and Helder Costa as first-choice wing options whilst there is some promise in Ian Poveda, though it still appears as if Bielsa wants another winger.

Perhaps Kent could be that man as his form at Ibrox continues to make the headlines. Last season, he provided eight goals and four assists in all competitions and that has continued well into this campaign having already delivered four goals and three assists.

Gordon Strachan has likened the former Reds winger to Sadio Mane, claiming he plays as an “old fashioned inside forward” whilst Kyle Lafferty believes Kent could become a better player than Eden Hazard, he said:

“He has everything in his locker. Ryan’s in the top three of the best I’ve played with and I’ve had Dybala and Belotti as team-mates. I’m more than happy to say that as he provides something special. It’s about how he takes the ball, how he runs with it and I’ve seen him absolutely destroy defenders. He can do that even with three or four defenders around him. Ryan’s a match-winner.”

If Bielsa really wants Kent that bad, then he’s going to have to convince Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani into forking out a whopping £20m for his signature.

Having previously missed out on Dan James, it’s perhaps the least they can do. They must trust him after all.

Aston Villa: Fans react as Werder Bremen urge Milot Rashica to make transfer decision

Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have urged Milot Rashica to make a decision over his future after being linked with a move to Aston Villa.

With the summer transfer window open, Villa boss Dean Smith could look to improve his squad options, in particular in attack where the likes of Keinan Davis, Mbwana Samatta and Wesley have all struggled to find consistent form.

With transfer gossip flooding the internet, Brentford striker Ollie Watkins has emerged as a potential arrival, whilst a link to Rashica has been heavily maintained.

The 24-year-old netted eight goals and supplied seven assists in 28 Bundesliga games for Bremen last season and has a current Transfermarkt value of £19.8m.

With interest reported from Villa, Bremen boss Kohfeldt provided an update on the attacker’s future and the German club have now urged the attacker to make a decision on his future.

Reacting to the news which was shared by Twitter account @AVFC_News, some Villa fans gave their opinion on the ongoing rumour surrounding the attacker. Whilst some want him to sign, given his impressive stats from last term, others aren’t as keen as they think he is holding out for a potentially bigger move, suggesting he doesn’t really want to join the Villans.

Leeds should develop Tyler Roberts rather than buying Sibley

Leeds United’s transfer business may not be over yet.

Indeed, the Whites still seem to be in the market for a new attacking midfielder with links to Louie Sibley making headlines this week.

However, we can’t quite understand why Leeds are in the market for Sibley.

There’s no doubting that he’s an exciting talent, after all he burst onto the scene at Derby with five goals in 11 games last season. But is he any better than what Leeds already have?

Tyler Roberts is already making a mark in that position, appearing in every single one of Leeds’ Premier League games so far, and while it could be argued that Sibley has a higher ceiling being two years younger, he hasn’t proven himself over a long period of time.

How many players burst onto the scene and ride the crest of a wave while their confidence is flying high only to flop later down the line? Leeds have seen this themselves only recently with Jack Clarke’s form taking a nosedive after his £10m move to Tottenham last year, with the winger failing to break into the QPR team during an ill-fated loan spell. With Sibley only having 14 senior league appearances to his name, bringing him in would be a gamble.

Roberts on the other hand, has been producing the goods for a number of years at this point, and now he even has a few Premier League appearances under his belt, and it’s fair to say that he hasn’t looked out of place in the top-flight so far, with Bielsa impressed enough to give him a run out in every single league match this season.

The manager is seemingly a big fan of Roberts as well, speaking about him after the Whites’ win against Sheffield United saying:

“I think as the season goes on he will be able to show the undoubted qualities he has.”

Those quotes certainly make it seem as though the Welshman is a part of Bielsa’s plans this season, so it doesn’t seem like Sibley would be a necessary signing.

United would be better off developing the players already at the club rather than splashing out on an unproven youngster.

Manchester City: Fans go wild over Kevin De Bruyne assist in 2017 win over Stoke

Lots of Manchester City fans revelled in the club’s Twitter throwback to a “sublime” Kevin De Bruyne moment from 2017.

The club tweeted footage from the 7-2 win over Stoke in the 2017/18 season (via @ManCity) which showed the Belgian at his best, threading a perfectly-weighted diagonal ball through a gap between four opponents to pick out the onrushing Leroy Sane, who coolly slotted it to the net.

That was Manchester City’s sixth goal of a memorable afternoon at the Etihad Stadium and De Bruyne’s second assist of the day, having earlier set up Gabriel Jesus for his goal. Such was his performance that day that then-Stoke manager Mark Hughes said afterwards: “For me he is the best player in the Premier League by a country mile”. [via BBC]

De Bruyne ended the 2017/18 Premier League with eight goals and 16 assists as City racked up a record points total of 100, with the Belgian being named the club’s Player of the Season and being included in the PFA Team of the Year.

Arsenal: Gunners set to rival Tottenham and others in transfer chase for Willian

Arsenal can get one over their bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur by signing Willian after Le 10 Sport reported that European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also interested in signing the Chelsea ace in the upcoming summer transfer window.

As per the report, with coronavirus affecting the transfer market, it could be difficult for clubs to spend millions to strengthen. Therefore, attracting players at a lower cost is the ideal aim and some of them are affected by this situation.

Step forward Willian, whose current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of June and an extension does not seem to be on the cards at the moment, so the Brazilian could be available on a free transfer.

The report also claims that the Gunners as well as Spurs remain very interested in him. Indeed, the fact that Willian would be available on a free transfer is already an incentive for the Emirates Stadium outfit to go out and sign him, therefore getting one over on the Lilywhites.

Based on his stats so far this season, the 31-year-old still has plenty to offer, scoring seven goals and making six assists in 37 appearances in all competitions, according to website).

Having a player of his experience in the dressing room could be vital for Mikel Arteta’s side, with the added bonus that the Brazilian international has shown that he can still perform in the top flight. With no transfer fee to be paid, Willian provides an option of minimal risk who could thrive at Arsenal.

Chelsea: Predicted XI to take on Crystal Palace

Chelsea will look to continue their mission for Champions League football next season as they take on Crystal Palace this evening.

The Blues bounced back from their shock 3-2 defeat to West Ham last week with a 3-0 win over Watford at the weekend. Olivier Giroud, Willian and Ross Barkley were all on the scoresheet against the Hornets to take their side one step closer to securing a top four finish.

Manchester United are also in fine form and have narrowed the gap between them and Chelsea to just two points. Frank Lampard’s side must keep up with their top four rivals if they want to avoid slipping into Europa League territory.

Transfer Tavern has predicted how the Blues might line up against the Eagles this evening…

Giroud should undoubtedly keep his starting position up front after scoring two goals since the Premier League restarted. He also netted Chelsea’s winning goal in their first match back against Aston Villa (via Sofascore). His accompanying wingers should also remain the same, with both Willian and Christian Pulisic impressing since the restart.

Barkley will likely keep his midfield position after scoring against Watford but Jorginho will operate in the deeper role to help fend off any unexpected attacks from Palace. Regular starter N’Golo Kante was forced off the pitch on Saturday with a hamstring injury.

Mason Mount earned a disappointing 6.5 Sofascore rating against the Hornets, which was the lowest score from the starting XI by far. Lampard may opt to switch up the attacking midfield combination and bring in Ruben Loftus-Cheek instead.

From last Saturday’s clash at Stamford Bridge, two changes could take place in defence, seeing Antonio Rudiger come in to replace Andreas Christensen in order to alternate between resting up key players. Furthermore, Marcos Alonso may replace youngster Reece James to add more seniority to the backline.

How do you think Lampard will set up against Crystal Palace tonight, Blues? Have your say in the comments below…

Spurs fans shaking their heads at Ryan Sessegnon’s comments

After arriving from Fulham last summer, Ryan Sessegnon perhaps hasn’t enjoyed the amount of first-team football at Tottenham that he may have originally hoped for.

The England U21 international has only featured 12 times across all competitions for the first-team, with his only goal in a Spurs shirt coming away against Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stages.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The north London side have had a mixed season as a whole too, with Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking leading to Jose Mourinho’s arrival as the club’s manager.

And despite them currently finding themselves in eighth place in the Premier League, Sessegnon has revealed his optimism for next year. He said: “The gaffer wants to push on next year, I can’t see why we won’t be pushing for the top 2 or 3. We’ve got a very strong squad. If we can add some bits to it we can go all the way and I know the gaffer is looking to win title.”

After hearing about Sessegnon’s comments, Spurs fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One fan in particular felt that Sessegnon’s ambition seemed slightly far-fetched given that the club may not be able to spend big-money this summer.”Stop talking”, “Bless him” – Sessegnon’s “deluded” comments has many Spurs fans shaking heads

It’s certainly an ambitious statement to make.

Quiz: West Ham United – The Ultimate Boys of ’86 Quiz

The 1985/1986 season is celebrated at West Ham as being one of the best campaigns of the club’s existence.

Having finished 16th in the First Division the season before, John Lyall’s Hammers were not expected to compete in the way that they did, as they mounted a serious title challenge alongside Liverpool and Everton, which went down to the penultimate weekend of the season.

It was a title bad akin to Leicester City’s in 2015/2016, although West Ham were unable to do what the Foxes did and end the season as Champions. However, it remains a fond memory for the fans who experienced that season and the players who made it happen.

That squad, which included the likes of Tony Cottee, Frank McAvennie, Tony Gale, Alvin Martin and Alan Devonshire, are often invited back to the club as guests of honour and will forever be known as ‘The Boys of ’86.’

But how much do you remember of that season? Or, if you’re too young to remember it, how much do you know about one of the best seasons in West Ham’s great history?

Test your knowledge in the quiz below and don’t forget to share it with our mates…

Manchester City: Fans rubbish Kalidou Koulibaly links amid defensive crisis

With another January transfer window on the horizon, it’s that time of year where Manchester City are once again linked with a move for Spanish playmaker Isco, but now it looks like there could be another name about to be consistently tipped for a switch to the Etihad.

Particularly during City’s newly-found defensive crisis, with first-team stars Ederson, Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko out for the foreseeable future, the club have been repeatedly linked with a move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) has been the latest source to link the centre-back to a move to Manchester – but these fans clearly don’t fancy Pep Guardiola adding him to the team.

The Senegalese international has been one of Europe’s top centre-backs in recent seasons and a top ball-playing defender, exhibiting a 91.2% pass success rate in the 2017/2018 season for Napoli, highlighting why he may be so sought after at Eastlands.

Regardless of the credibility of some rumours, City supporters seem to prefer a range of alternatives to the Napoli defender, making their views clear online.

Here’s what they had to say on Twitter:

Two goals from Nathan Young-Coombes fired Graeme Murty’s young charges to victory in Bratislava, with the 16-year-old scoring either side of half-time after the home side had taken the lead. [via The Scottish Sun]

The teenage forward had also scored in the first leg against Slovan Bratislava three weeks ago, as well as netting what proved to be a vital goal in the previous round against Young Boys when Rangers advanced only on away goals (as per rangers.co.uk).

It isn’t just in the UEFA Youth League that the youngster has been on the goal trail, either – he found the net in the Light Blues’ 2-0 win over Wrexham in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup recently, citing a pre-game talk with ex-Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands as beneficial in helping him to get into goal-scoring positions.
