Premier League stars reply to Henderson’s Instagram birthday snap

[ad_pod ]

Monday was Jordan Henderson’s 29th birthday and Liverpool’s ace was seemingly celebrating it with a nice and healthy breakfast while relaxing on his long overdue holiday.

He took the time to thank everyone who wished him all the best on his special day with a quick snap on

/Byz58ebAume/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram showcasing the fine cuisine he’ll soon be enjoying. Many of the Premier League’s best, ex and present, were quick to congratulate him with great birthday wishes.

Some of his teammates, like Dejan Lovren, were first to the scene and the Croatian sent a message mixed with happy wishes and a bit of his standard banter with an emoji of a kiss or two.

Alongside Lovren there were some rivals, such as Fabian Delph from Manchester City, and some ex-Reds like Jamie Redknapp who posted a series of emojis showing their support and love.

After such a successful season at Liverpool, winning the Champions League and finishing second in the Premier League, it’s safe to say that Henderson deserves a nice breakfast at the very least. Let’s hope it was a good one!

Pundit View: Jackie McNamara is unimpressed with Borna Barisic’s debut season at Rangers

[ad_pod ]

Former Scotland international full-back Jackie McNamara wasn’t impressed with Borna Barisic’s debut season as a Rangers defender, speaking to website Football Insider.

What’s he said?

Barisic arrived from the Gers’ UEFA Europa League opponents NK Osijek last summer after impressing in qualifying against the Ibrox side but has failed to make the left-back position his own.

One of Steven Gerrard’s big initial signings, his lack of progress has been a big disappointment for Rangers supporters.

McNamara, who knows a thing or two about what it takes to become a successful full-back in Scotland, reckons he can’t have been impressing the Gers boss behind the scenes.

As quoted by Football Insider, he said:

He looked good, and then disappeared. He caught my eye when I watched him against Rangers and started quite well when he came to Scotland.

His delivery from wide areas was good and he was a threat on the overlap.

But then he was in and out of the side, and didn’t play at all at the end of the season, so he couldn’t have impressed the manager in training.

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

Is there a future for him at Ibrox?

Having made just 22 appearances for the club, not only are there question marks about the player’s ability, but also his fitness, being unavailable for large chunks of the season.

As frustrating as that was for Rangers supporters, there is the potential for him to improve massively if he can get a run of games under his belt after a strong pre-season.

Given he is regularly selected for a talented Croatia side, he must have something to his game that can benefit Gerrard’s side consistently next season.

To write him off so early in his Rangers career would be wrong and although it may be tempting to cash in on him this summer, the club should be looking to do what it takes to get him on the pitch and playing confidently.

McNamara isn’t wrong when assessing his debut season, but with patience and the right manager, Barisic can still come good at Ibrox.

The Verdict: Would Moise Kean be a good signing for Everton?

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton have made contact with Juventus over the availability of Moise Kean.

The 19-year-old striker enjoyed a breakthrough 2018/19 campaign with the Italian giants, winning the Serie A title and netting six goals in 13 appearances – he found the back of the net seven times in all competitions.

Already a senior Italy international, Kean is one of the most exciting young players in Europe and would be a major coup for Everton if the Toffees get their hands on the teenager.

Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…

He is currently starring for the Italy Under-21 side at the European Championships this summer, where he is part of arguably the competition’s most dangerous team.

The Merseysiders already have excellent young performers such as Richarlison, Lucas Digne and Jordan Pickford, so if they could add Kean to that bunch they would have a hugely impressive, and sustainable team.

Would Kean be a good signing for Everton? Let’s see what the writers of Football FanCast have to say…

Matt Dawson

“Signing Kean would be an almighty setback for Calvert-Lewin. Everton clearly need more in attack but signing a teenager of this calibre should be forgotten about considering they already have a talented young forward coming through the ranks. If the Toffees are to launch an assault on the top six they need someone with a lot more firepower than the Juventus man possesses. It would be a great signing for the future, but Everton should be thinking about the present.”

Luke Glanville

“Signing one of the brightest prospects from one of the biggest clubs in the world in Moise Kean would be a fantastic move PR wise for Everton. However, if Juventus are willing to let the 19-year-old go then you have to wonder why. Could it be that they’ve seen something the Toffees haven’t? Kean wouldn’t be cheap for Marcel Brands and Marco Silva either and for me, a permanent transfer would just about be too much of a risk.”

Charles Jones

“I think this deal makes so much sense for Everton. Kean has all the potential in the world, but even if he doesn’t reach the heights that are expected of him Everton are signing a player who has had an exceptional goalscoring ratio last season for both club and country. The Toffees are in need of a striker and this signing could be a brilliant piece of business.”

Sad to see: Everton fans will be disappointed by latest Henry Onyekuru report

[ad_pod ]

According to Football Insider, Galatasaray are in advanced talks with Everton over the signing of Henry Onyekuru on yet another loan spell, after the forward spent the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign with the Turkish side.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Toffees signed the Nigerian from KAS Eupen back in 2017 in a deal worth £7m, although they had to immediately loan him out to Anderlecht as he didn’t have a work permit.

Those issues are still yet to be resolved, and Onyekuru was loaned out again after returning back to Merseyside after his spell in Belgium.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

He performed well over the course of his two years away from Goodison Park, notching 10 goals in 2017/18 and then an impressive 16 strikes last term – at the age of just 22, he is definitely an exciting prospect and one that Marco Silva could do with having in his team right now.

Everton fans should be devastated

Naturally, the supporters had every reason to get excited about Onyekuru’s arrival in 2017 after he had hit a whopping 24 goals in the 2016/17 campaign.

Back in August of last year, the supporters expressed their excitement at the player’s return and some couldn’t wait to see what the diminutive forward could bring to the Toffees lineup.

So, upon hearing this news, the supporters will most likely be devastated at the fact that they will have to wait for at least a whole season yet again to see the exciting striker actually play for them – it could end up being three years until they see him in the blue of Everton.

The fans have also already expressed their desire to see someone else come in to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, so the news that Onyekuru will be loaned out once again will be even more of a hammer blow to the Toffees faithful.

Spurs have "more chances" to sign Real Madrid star Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham Hotspur have “more chances” to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid this summer than other interested clubs, per AS.

What’s the word?

The attacking midfielder is reportedly deemed expendable this summer, with Sevilla and Real Betis both interested in securing his signature.

However, the aforementioned report claims that he has a €50m (£44.7m) asking price on his head, with Real seemingly happy to acquiesce to his sale.

The demanded fee, though, could prove prohibitive to his Spanish suitors, the report states, with Spurs more likely to match it.

Ceballos has just won the European Under-21 Championships with Spain, scoring two goals and registering two assists for La Roja.

An ideal signing

Ceballos could be perfect for Spurs.

He hasn’t really been given a chance at Real, making a total of 56 appearances for the club.

Yet he is a gifted midfielder, an excellent passer and a willing runner. Mauricio Pochettino requires both an intense work rate and an elite technical ability from his players, and the Spaniard has both.

Per WhoScored, he averaged a total of 44.1 passes per game in La Liga, with a pass completion rate of 92.6%.

He recycles possession effectively and also averages one key pass per game, along with 1.4 tackles, showing he is no slouch pressing and tracking back despite his obvious attacking flair.

Ceballos is certainly understated – perhaps that is why Real are so willing to cash in – but he is also quietly effective at every aspect of the game.

Spurs could do a lot worse than bringing him in this summer.

The Verdict: Would Crystal Palace be right to swoop for Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins?

[ad_pod ]

One of the biggest Crystal Palace-related transfer rumours to emerge this week was that reported by The Sutton and Croydon Guardian.

One of their reports suggested that Roy Hodgson is keen on the double signing of Brentford attacking duo Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins.

The former is a striker who’s been scoring for fun in the Sky Bet Championship in 2018/2019 and the latter is a winger most used mostly on the left of a front three or in the number ten role just behind the centre-forward.

Regardless of whether Wilfried Zaha leaves the club this summer, the Eagles are in desperate need of a revamp in attack that boils down to the way they play, with a useless target man and wingers they rely on way too much. The signings of Maupay and Watkins could be a huge aspect of that.

Today, in light of this, we ask three Football FanCast writers if they think Palace would be right to swoop for the twosome…

Billy Meyers

“I think this double transfer swoop would definitely hook the Palace fans’ attention. For some time now, the Eagles have invested their millions in players who have almost always plied their trade in top-flight football, which is all well and good but some haven’t some as much hunger as two up and coming Championship stars would. These two would give their all for Palace and would redefine the attack.”

Charles Jones

“The Brentford duo are two of the most exciting players in the Championship and they would certainly be great additions to any bottom half Premier League side. Watkins is an excellent winger and Maupay certainly knows where the net is. A front three of Zaha, Maupay and Watkins would scare any defence.”

Check out the video below to find out why Arsenal fans aren’t celebrating Spurs’ UCL final defeat as much as they’d like…

Matt Dawson

“Maupay would be a superb signing and is the striker Palace have been crying out for. The likes of Ayew, Benteke and Wickham simply aren’t good enough so adding a forward of quality of the Frenchman can only be a good thing. He was exceptional in the Championship last term and if they sign Watkins as well, it would be excellent business.”

Leeds’ Phillips valuation shows a huge step forward for the club

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to reports from The Sun, Leeds will be asking for £30m from any club wishing to sign their star man Kalvin Phillips.

The midfielder hasn’t been short of Premier League interest this summer with Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Norwich all sniffing around the 23-year-old, but this latest update may show Leeds’ desire to keep hold of their star man.

What’s the story?

£14m had been the reported figure that Aston Villa wanted to sign the youngster for, but now that seems highly unlikely as the Whites have demanded £30m for his services.

The Villans will now have to pay over double what they wanted if they wish to bring the Championship star to Villa Park this summer.

Huge step forward

This price tag will certainly act as a deterrent for any team that is thinking about raiding Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the upcoming transfer window.

Phillips’ dominating performances in the midfield last season may have earned him a spot in the Championship Team of the Year, but it’s hard to believe any side will pay that amount for him after one good season.

This asking price will more than likely act as an attempt to keep Phillips at the club for the next 12 months.

Rejecting interest from Premier League teams and not allowing themselves to be lowballed is a huge statement of intent from Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani as previous years have seen the club ripped off when top-flight teams come knocking.

Lewis Cook joined Bournemouth for an initial £6m fee, and now he is valued at triple that amount according to Transfermarkt.

This is a huge step forward for Leeds’ negotiating team as they aren’t allowing themselves to be taken advantage of in the transfer window when in previous years they were more than happy to let their star players go cheaply.

Transfer Focus: Celtic must resist interest in Scottish team core this summer

[ad_pod ]

Celtic are bracing themselves for bids from Leicester City as Brendan Rodgers considers a double move for Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor this summer, according to The Express.

What’s the story?

Former managers targeting players from their old clubs is nothing really new in football but it’s not something that Celtic are regularly accustomed to.

For the most part, any players who have moved on from the Hoops to join the likes of Gordon Strachan or Neil Lennon have been surplus to requirements.

A controversial summer could be in store then, with The Express reporting that the Foxes are tracking two of the club’s most important players of the last few years.

Leigh Griffiths is ready and raring to go for Celtic next season. One fan discusses what we can expect from him in the video below…

The paper reckon the duo are being lined up as potential replacements for Ben Chilwell and James Maddison, who are attracting interest from England’s richest sides.

Rodgers of course featured both heavily in his all-conquering Celtic team during his almost three years at the club.

Cash in or keep?

Both players are products of Celtic’s academy and the club have done extraordinarily well to develop both into Premier League calibre players.

Any successful home grown model must accept that one day the players will be moved on for massive profit, but in this specific case Celtic can’t allow themselves to be tempted into the sale of either.

The perception of Rodgers raiding Neil Lennon’s squad for the best talent would automatically start the new Hoops manager’s reign under a heavy, dark cloud that it may never recover from.

Not to mention that the two players are absolutely critical to Celtic’s success and if the club are to retain their Scottish Premiership title, both will be needed.

Replacing their impact and influence on the way the Hoops play would cost far too much money in today’s market.

The departure of Rodgers from Celtic has already caused enough drama and they can’t allow his future interference to ruin Lennon’s project.

There’ll be plenty of time to sell both Tierney and McGregor in summers to come for perhaps even bigger money.
