Chappell: Taskin, Sunny ban unfair to Bangladesh

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny and pacer Taskin Ahmed have been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect after an independent assessment found their bowling actions to be illegal. Both bowlers underwent assessments in Chennai last week, after being reported for suspect actions during the World T20 round-one match against Netherlands. The pair returned to the side to play in Bangladesh’s first match of the Super 10 stage, against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens, where Sunny took 2 for 34 and Taskin claimed 2 for 32. They can apply for a re-assessment at any stage after modifying their bowling actions. They may be allowed to play in the domestic league, pending the BCB’s permission.ESPNcricinfo has learned left-arm spinner Saqlain Sajib will replace Sunny in Bangladesh’s World T20 squad, while Taskin will be replaced by offspin-bowling allrounder Shuvagata Hom.These two are not the first Bangladesh bowlers to be suspended for an illegal action. Offspinner Sohag Gazi was suspended from bowling in October 2014, and he was cleared after a second test in February 2015. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was the first Bangladesh bowler to be suspended, in November 2008, before the ban was lifted in March 2009. Al-Amin Hossain was also reported for a suspect action in 2014, but was cleared after an assessment in Chennai.

Local lads help Lancashire prosper

Lancashire closed in on victory after declaring their second innings 495 runs ahead and then removing seven Hampshire batsmen before the close

In one respect, at least, “outground” is a misnomer. Although venues away from a county’s headquarters do, indeed, entail a journey from a now familiar stadium or ground, they are also a return to the club environment in which almost all players learn the game and to which very many will return when their first-class days are done. Perhaps that is why so many county cricketers show obvious pleasure at the prospect of outground cricket and excel when they play it.Certainly Lancashire’s players enjoyed themselves in Southport’s familiar surroundings over the first three days of this match. And why should they have not done so? Most of them will have played club or 2nd XI matches here and over half the side regularly play ECB Premier League cricket here. Such familiarity really does give a team home advantage. For example, on the third day of a match which Lancashire have bossed in the accustomed manner of league leaders, Paul Horton (Sefton Park and Northern) made a polished 111 off 154 balls and shared an opening stand of 166 with Luis Reece (Leyland) whose own innings of 65 was his sixth successive Division Two half-century in what has become a breakthrough season for him.Later acceleration was provided by Ashwell Prince and by Andrea Agathangelou (Highfield), the latter batsman hitting braces of fours and sixes in a rapid 28. Such enterprise allowed Lancashire to make 284 for 5 declared in 56 overs and set Hampshire 496 to win, a target which soon proved almost a statistical irrelevance as the visitors limped to 137 for 7 at close of play. Despite the presence of Matt Coles at the wicket, surely all that remains on the fourth morning of this game is for Lancashire to complete their utterly deserved victory.Yet if it is right to praise Lancashire’s dynamic batting in the first half of the third day of this game, it is also proper to laud the efforts of 16-year-old off-spinner Brad Taylor who was making his first-class debut far from home and the Southern Premier League in which he represents Hampshire’s Academy. Sticking to his most difficult task with the grit of a seasoned cricketer – you try containing Prince when he has a licence to thrill – Taylor took his first four Championship wickets at a cost of 64 runs in 14 overs. The fact that some of these were the product of the pragmatic exchange of runs for wickets which characterise pre-declaration play does not diminish Taylor’s achievement on Friday. He turned the ball and looked a more than decent prospect. However, the efforts of the Lancashire seam attack on a pitch which rewarded accuracy with the new ball threw the display of their Hampshire counterparts into sharp relief. Glen Chapple had an out of form Jimmy Adams caught at second slip by Agathangelou for 4 but then had to leave the field with an Achilles injury which is still being fully assessed. His team-mates barely noticed his absence as Hampshire’s batsmen subsided in the manner of cricketers who know that the four-day format holds no glory for them this summer.Tom Smith (Chorley and occasionally Formby) accounted for Liam Dawson while Kyle Hogg had Michael Roberts lbw before removing James Vince’s off stump when the first innings centurion had made 20. That wicket was Hogg’s 56th of the season and he is now the most successful bowler in the County Championship.Simon Kerrigan (Ormskirk) maintained the form he had begun to discover in the first innings by claiming the wickets of Sean Ervine, who carelessly thrashed him to Luke Procter, the one fielder on the leg side boundary, and also Neil McKenzie, whose 44 was the most significant innings played by a Hampshire batsman on a day many of his colleagues may wish to forget.Chris Wood’s run out raised hopes that the game may be concluded in three days but Coles and Adam Wheater survived until stumps. Barring weather intervention, they have merely succeeded in delaying a victory which will reinforce Lancashire’s strong claim to be the best side in Division Two.

Van Wyk out of remainder of Bangalore Test

Kruger van Wyk has been ruled out of taking further part in the Bangalore Test, due to an injured arm

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Sep-2012Kruger van Wyk, the New Zealand wicketkeeper, will not take any further part in the Bangalore Test, due to an injured arm. Brendon McCullum will take on the wicketkeeping duties when India bat in the fourth innings.Van Wyk was hit on the left forearm while batting, late on the third day, by a short of a length ball from Umesh Yadav; he wasn’t wearing an arm guard at the time. An X-ray confirmed the arm was not* fractured, but he failed to pass a fitness test on the fourth morning. That was the second blow van Wyk had taken off Umesh’s bowling during his innings of 31, having been struck on the helmet after coming down the track to a short ball the previous delivery. Bairstow ton downs Middlesex

Jonny Bairstow scored his maiden one-day century in his first innings at Lord’s as bottom-of-the-table Yorkshire beat Middlesex by 22 runs

Scorecard
Jonny Bairstow scored his maiden one-day century in his first innings at Lord’s as bottom-of-the-table Yorkshire dashed Middlesex’s hopes of moving alongside Sussex at the top of the Clydesdale Bank 40 Group A with a 22-run victory. Bairstow made 114 and shared partnerships of 85 in 15 overs with Jacques Rudolph, and 105 in 16 overs with Anthony McGrath, to lead Yorkshire to a total of 275 for 4 after Middlesex had surprisingly put them in to bat on a flat
pitch. The target always looked too big for Middlesex but they made a great fight of it. Paul Stirling, the Ireland batsman, hit 68 off 47 balls, including 10 fours and a six, before he was caught at short cover off the left-arm spin of David Wainwright.Middlesex then slumped to 160 for 7 but Steven Crook hit 61 off 40 balls with five fours and two sixes, Tom Smith (27) joined him in an eighth-wicket stand of 66 in 11 overs, and they were driving Yorkshire to distraction until Smith drove Richard Pyrah to mid-off and Crook sliced Ryan Sidebottom to cover point. The match, which was originally scheduled to be played under floodlights, was only given the go-ahead at 8.30 in the morning with the start brought forward to noon following talks between both sides and the police in the wake of the recent rioting in London. It clearly affected the attendance but there was still a sizeable crowd to see Bairstow take control after Andrew Gale had been caught behind off the fifth ball of the innings from Corey Collymore.Bairstow, the 21-year-old England Lions wicketkeeper-batsman, who had never made more than 46 in his 24 previous one-day matches, was soon driving Tim Murtagh straight back over his head for six on his way to fifty off 47 balls. Brimming with confidence, he went on to complete his hundred with two more sixes off Steven Crook and Murtagh and had accelerated to his 114 off 87 balls with nine fours as well when he was bowled swinging across the line against
Dexter.Rudolph had made 40 off 50 balls when he was caught at extra cover off Crook, McGrath hit 63 off 60 before spooning Murtagh to cover and Gary Ballance weighed in with an unbeaten 34 off 24 balls.

Mark Jonkman suspended for illegal action

The ICC has suspended Netherlands fast bowler Mark Jonkman from bowling in international cricket after his action was found to be illegal

Cricinfo staff16-Aug-2010The ICC has suspended Netherlands fast bowler Mark Jonkman from bowling in international cricket after an independent test found that his deliveries exceeded the tolerance threshold level of 15 degrees for bending of the elbow. The independent analysis was performed by Prof. Bruce Elliott, member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists, at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth on July 30.Prof Elliott, in his report, said, “Mean elbow extension levels of 32.9 degrees (±3.74) and 31.4 degrees (±4.52) for the length and yorker deliveries respectively, unfortunately show Mr Jonkman at more than double the allowable extension threshold. Additionally, a mean elbow extension level of 38.8 degrees (±3.73) for the bouncer delivery indicates that Mr Jonkman’s extension levels increase significantly as he bowls the ball shorter.”Jonkman had been reported by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Buddhi Pradhan following a match between Netherlands and Ireland on July 9 in Amstelveen during the ICC World Cricket League Division 1.Jonkman can apply for re-assessment of his action after he has modified it in accordance with clause 2.4 of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions. He also has the right to appeal against UWA’s conclusions to the Bowling Review Group, within 14 days of receiving the report.

The USMNT scored three times in seven minutes and 23 seconds to claim a vital CONCACAF Nations League win over 10-man Trinidad and Tobago Thursday evening. Pepi got things going for Gregg Berhalter's side, before Antonee Robinson followed up with a long-distance curling effort. Then, Reyna finally made his mark on the match, scoring the dagger in the 3-0 victory.

With victory Thursday – which many were not convinced was coming prior to the late Rciardo Pepi opener – the U.S. have all but confirmed their spot at Copa America. For USA fans, it's bittersweet relief, because we all know their history on the island of Trinidad in matches where they need a result to qualify for a major world tournament.

The key to the evening, though, was showing that the USMNT can in fact find a result without starting star wingers Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah. The Soca Warriors were incredibly composed and should be applauded for their defensive showing. Ultimately, though, it was impressive how focused Berhalter's side stayed and how influential his substitutes were; Brenden Aaronson and Pepi changed the game.

No videogame eu tenho jogado bastante Fifa– disse.

England player and coach Ruth Prideaux dies

Ruth Prideaux, the former England wicketkeeper-batsman who became England women’s first permanent head coach in 1988 and guided them to the 1993 World Cup, died last week at the age of 85.Prideaux (née Westbrook) earned 11 Test caps between 1957 and 1963, during which time she scored 476 runs at 31.73, with a top score of 87 against South Africa in Cape Town. However, it was for her off-field role that she will arguably be best remembered. She was acknowledged as having helped England become leaders in the women’s game during the early 1990s – bringing in a backroom staff which included nutritionists and physios – which had its crowning moment at Lord’s in 1993 when they defeated New Zealand. In a 2012 interview with the , she talked about her life in cricket: “I started playing cricket at school but I also played all the games such as Lacrosse and hockey.”I trained in Physical Education and started taking cricket more seriously when I took up my first teaching post in Yorkshire. I was a wicket-keeper batswoman and was put forward for county trials.”I suppose I did quite well and progressed on to England. I made my England debut against Australia at the Oval in 1957. I had a good eye for the ball and batted at number-three. I did well enough to keep my place.”A six-month tour with England in 1957-58 took her, by boat, to New Zealand via the Panama Canal before heading across the Tasman to Australia. On the way home they stopped in Sri Lanka before returning through the Suez Canal.”It was a fantastic trip. We were young and enjoying our cricket and enjoying the feeling of travelling. It was a great time for us,” she recalled in the 2012 interview. She is survived by her husband, Roger Prideaux, who also played three Tests for England between 1968 and 1969.
