Crystal Palace: Fans react to Madueke links

Plenty of Crystal Palace fans have been reacting to the club’s interest in PSV Eindhoven star Noni Madueke.

According to the Evening Standard, the Eagles, along with Leeds United and Bayern Munich, have already put feelers out over a potential swoop.

Madueke, 19, is currently with England’s Under-21 squad at the European Championships.

He’s starred for PSV in the Eredivisie this season, playing as a centre-forward and a right-winger.

The teenager, valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, has scored seven league goals and registered six assists.

Madueke was also involved in three Europa League goals this season, and his displays appear to be catching the eye at Palace.

@cpfc_xtra shared the Evening Standard’s story on Monday afternoon, which, as to be expected, received plenty of interaction.

This is what some supporters had to say to the links, with some excited and others not exactly optimistic over the chances of Madueke heading to Selhurst Park.

A gente dá sempre as mesmas respostas porque vocês fazem as mesmas perguntas.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Hendrie’s Sarr comments

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to transfer comments from former midfielder Lee Hendrie, who tipped the club to move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr this summer.

The 23-year-old has starred for the Hornets this season in the Championship, scoring 10 goals and registering 10 assists in the second-tier.

Sarr, valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, has played all across the front line this season, with his main position at Vicarage Road out on the right-hand side.

Hendrie, talking to This is Futbol, cited by Birmingham Live, staked his claim for Dean Smith and sporting director Johan Lange to look at the Senegal international over the coming months.

“I think he’s a fabulous player, I really do. He’s a young man still learning his trade, very raw. I was a bit disappointed with him this season, at the start of the season.

“I felt that maybe he had possibly sulked at the situation that he wasn’t able to go to Liverpool or actually be back playing in the Premier League and he had to stay at Watford. And it took some time for the penny to drop and he is now in great form, scoring goals, creating.

“Yes, he’s a player that certainly brings that element of attack and forward threat. He’d certainly fit the bill for Dean Smith’s side because that’s the sort of formation he plays with, a sort of three with two wide men. So, yeah, he’d be a great addition to the football club.”

Villa fans react

@AVFC_News shared the story to Hendrie’s comments on social media on Tuesday morning, asking fans if they would like to see Sarr at Villa Park.

This is what they had to say in reply, with many for a potential summer swoop for the winger who Sadio Mane labelled ‘rapid’.

Smith can fix Villa’s Matty Cash worry with Kesler

Speaking before Villa’s defeat against Leicester at the weekend, Smith admitted: “Matt has a hamstring strain. I am not sure the grade but it will mean a few weeks out, which is a blow for us.

“But it is something we have been good at dealing with so far. We have not had too many injuries but when we have people have come in and done the job for us.”

Unfortunately for Villa and Smith, Cash’s stand-in on Sunday, veteran full-back Ahmed Elmohamady, just looked completely off the pace, with it being no surprise that the manager singled him out for criticism after the game following his role in the opening goal.

He said: “I’m disappointed with the goals. Elmo shouldn’t have got involved with the first one, leave it to Ezri and deal with the second ball. In general they dealt with the second balls better than we did.”

At 33, Elmohamady isn’t the future of Villa, and in the pace and intensity of the Premier League, it’s difficult and unreasonable to expect the Egyptian to be the kind of marauding full-back that Cash is.

But in one academy starlet, Smith could solve his major concern at right-back: Kaine Kesler.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut when he took to the field in that now famous FA Cup clash against Liverpool earlier this calendar year, where Villa’s entire side was named full of the club’s U23s and U18s after the first-team squad were forced to sit out.

Kesler who has predominantly played at right-back at Premier League 2 level, seems to have all the tools in his locker to be a real dangerous threat going forward for Villa, with his pace something that has already made people sit up and take notice.

In fact, speaking to The Athletic, one source said: “He looks like he’s got a real chance of featuring for the first team in the future. His speed is frightening and that could set him apart.”

And writing for The Athletic, Gregg Evans revealed that “senior players have been taken back by his blistering pace and his desire to make an impression when called upon”, and that “Smith rates the rapid right-back highly”.

Smith should make the brave call of giving Kesler the chance to shine now that Cash is out, and he could well be the man to solve the Villa’s boss’ concern in that position.

Leeds want Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez

According to reports, Leeds United are one of the sides interested in signing Real Madrid ace Lucas Vazquez this summer, and he could prove to be the ideal replacement if the linked-away Raphinha does end up leaving Elland Road.

What’s the story?

The Spain international’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is expiring come the end of the season, and it appears he looks set for an exit from the European giants.

According to Deportes Cuatro, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are ready to take advantage of the contract stalemate between Vazquez and Madrid, and swoop in on a potential free transfer.

The report claims that Vazquez doesn’t want to decide his next club in the summer, and is keen on making a decision in March, with the likes of Leeds, Everton, Napoli and Milan all interested in signing him.

Bargain replacement for Raphinha

While Leeds fans will undoubtedly be buzzing at seeing Raphinha continue to produce eye-catching displays week-in and week-out following his arrival last summer – his latest seeing him net a stunning free-kick against Southampton on Tuesday night – it’s inevitable that some of European football’s heavyweights are keeping a close eye on him.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have been blown away by his progress, and are assessing him as a target ahead of a potential summer move for him.

If the Brazilian does end up leaving Elland Road after just one season, clinching Vazquez on a free transfer would be a fairly shrewd move to make. Not only would owner Andrea Radrizzani not have to pay a penny in signing him in terms of a transfer fee, but he would be getting someone with tonnes of experience at the highest level with both Madrid and Spain.

Vazquez has played Champions League football year-in and year-out at the Bernabeu, and the £155k-a-week earning speedster would offer this Leeds side plenty of know-how and insight.

If the Whites do have to wave goodbye to Raphinha in the summer, then Vazquez should be considered a serious option to replace him.

Wolves XI vs Chorley - predicted line up, latest confirmed team and injury news

When Wolves travel to Lancashire to face Chorley this evening, they will do so hoping to avoid some bad omens.

Back in the 1986/87 season, the non-league side defeated Wolves 3-0, swatting them aside in robust fashion.

The Chorley players, at the time, earned around £25-per-week, a far cry from some of the meteoric sums of money that the current Wolves team now earn.

It will be a historic FA Cup tie, one that will hopefully demonstrate that the world’s oldest cup competition isn’t yet dead.

Given the form Nuno Santo’s team have been in, you wouldn’t put it past them to struggle against the National League North side. They have only two of their last ten games so it’ll be interesting to see how the Old Gold line-up.

Nevertheless, we’ve had a go at putting an XI together. Here’s how we reckon Nuno could go on Friday evening.

For starters, we’re tipping the Portuguese manager to make as many as seven changes to the team that lost the Black Country derby to West Brom.

Those changes start at the back where usual cup goalkeeper John Ruddy deputises in place of Rui Patricio. Both full-backs are swapped out with Rayan Ait-Nouri coming in on the left and Ki-Jana Hoever playing on the right. Romain Saiss moves into centre-back to pair Willy Boly with Conor Coady set to miss out.

The England international was withdrawn by Nuno for the first time in his Wolves career against West Brom so it feels like a good time to take him out of the firing line. After all, he did concede a penalty last weekend.

Further changes come in midfield where both Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker drop out. We think Ruben Neves will be one of a few senior players fielded with Morgan Gibbs-White earning a rare start just behind the forward line.

We’ve hyped up Theo Corbeanu this week and reckon he should earn a first-team debut on the right-hand side, coming in for Adama Traore. Fabio Silva keeps his place while Patrick Cutrone gets an opportunity to prove what he’s capable of before Willian Jose possibly arrives on loan.

AND in other news, Wolves could find their perfect Raul Jimenez replacement in “very fast” £34k-p/w beast…

Everton must avoid Steven Nzonzi deal

Everton must refrain from making a knee-jerk decision by signing Steven Nzonzi, amid doubt in the AS Roma midfielder’s future with loan side Stade Rennais.

What’s the word?

According to Foot Mercato, the Blues have continued to monitor Nzonzi’s situation since he departed the Stadio Olimpico for Roazhon Park on a temporary deal in the last January transfer window.

Rennes fought off Premier League interest in Nzonzi and signed the Frenchman to add depth in their engine room last winter, which proved a wise decision after the £9m-rated brute helped the Ligue 1 outfit to secure qualification to the Champions League last term.

But just months on, discussions between Roma and Nzonzi, about terminating his loan deal ,are now said to be ongoing, even though Rennes had hoped to retain the 32-year-old with the prospect of a two-year contract.

Arsenal and Everton are expected to pay close attention to Nzonzi’s situation having tracked his path previously, as Julien Stephan begins scouting alternatives in case the 20-cap France international decides to quit his side.

Nzonzi has been a key part of Stephan’s plans with starting roles in all 17 of his Ligue 1 appearances this term, while opening five of the Roazhon Park native’s Champions League Group Stage ties.

Brands must block a deal

However, Everton should not be tempted to pursue a deal for Nzonzi this month should the £93,000-per-week enforcer decide to end his first spell back in France since 2009, as the former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City enforcer will not be an upgrade on those already featuring at Goodison Park.

Nzonzi has hardly taken Ligue 1 by storm this season with the 32-year-old often failing to present a fierce defensive presence, with just 0.9 successful tackles, 0.3 interceptions and 1.7 ground duels won per a game, per SofaScore.

He rarely brings play forward either, with just 0.5 successful dribbles, nor does he really create chances with just 0.4 key balls.

In terms of defensive actions, the only current Everton players Nzonzi’s numbers from this season would eclipse are those of the rarely-seen Fabian Delph and the attack-minded duo Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who average 0.6, 0.83 and 0.88 successful tackles per Premier League appearance, respectively.

Andre Gomes is also the sole Toffees player to offer fewer interceptions (0.08), but he is seemingly now far from Ancelotti’s plans with no top-flight starts since early November.

Whilst Carlo Ancelotti awaits the return of Allan from a hamstring injury, he should trust his current players to get Everton the wins they desire, as a knee-jerk move for N’Zonzi would simply see them bring in a player whose numbers indicate that he’s not as good as the players in the Blues’ squad.

Allan is expected to return to holding down the defensive role in the Italian tactician’s unit soon, too, making it even less vital that Marcel Brands commits more financial resources on further midfield options, unless Everton anticipate moving on from those currently out of favour.

For now, Ancelotti should manage with what he’s got until Allan returns to full fitness.

AND in other news, Carlo Ancelotti must cash-in on a £6.5m-rated outcast unfit for Everton.
