WHU fans love Lingard news

West Ham United fans are delighted after it was revealed Jesse Lingard has told his Hammers teammates he wishes to stay at the club beyond his current loan spell.

£13.5m-valued Lingard (Transfermarkt) has had a fantastic time during the few months he has spent with the Irons after joining on loan from Manchester United. In 16 games, he has managed nine goals and five assists (Transfermarkt), and he added fresh impetus as the Hammers qualified for the Europa League.

He has been called up to Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for this summer’s European Championships (Sky News), and he is set to return to Manchester United once his loan spell in London has come to an end. However, according to reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee, he still wants to remain at the London Stadium.

The news was shared on Twitter by @WestHam_Central, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Leeds must land Brentford’s Ivan Toney

Leeds should still look to land Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer amid Jon Newsome’s transfer claim.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days and weeks have suggested that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are keen on bringing Toney up to the Premier League, but Newsome has raised his doubts over a potential move.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, the former Leeds ace was asked whether he would go for a big-money deal for Toney if he had the choice.

He said: “In a word, no. No, I don’t think I would. I mean, if you’re looking at the players that they brought into the football club in the summer, all four of them are international football players and not one of them has got anywhere near the £35m price tag.

“So I’m not diminishing Toney’s ability and the impact that he’s had at Brentford this season, because I think he’s doing incredibly well, he’s doing really well.”

Far better than Bamford

Speaking last year, Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry raved about Toney’s ability, saying: “He’s turned into a tremendous all-round footballer. It’s important to remember Ivan is not just an exceptional goal-scoring forward, he’s also an outstanding defender.”

The 25-year-old is clinical in front of goal, having found the back of the net an incredible 29 times in just 40 league games and only missing six official big chances all season. Compare that to Leeds’ number nine Patrick Bamford, who has missed more than three times as many big chances (21) despite playing fewer games (32) – you only have to see his performance against Liverpool to see that being ruthless isn’t his strong suit.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Latest Leeds transfer rumours and news”]

Aside from being a lethal finisher, Toney also betters Bamford in many key attacking areas. He averages more key passes and crosses per game, makes more tackles and wins back possession more per match, and comes out on top in twice as many duels per game too.

Then, when you factor in the fact Bamford has never crossed the 20-goal mark in a league campaign while Toney has done so in the last two campaigns, it suggests that the latter is much more potent in front of goal.

As Fry says, the Brentford ace is the archetypal all-round centre-forward, and given that he has seamlessly made the step up from League One to the Championship, he should be confident in his own ability of doing the same at Premier League level. It’s exactly why Leeds must swoop for the £16.2m-rated striker.

MUFC should priotise Fofana over Varane

Manchester United could be set to sign a centre-back this summer to add to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

It has been reported that a central defender could one of the club’s transfer priorities.

Intriguingly, two Frenchman are apparently on the club’s list of potential recruits in the form of Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana and Raphael Varane of Real Madrid.

Despite the latter boasting considerably more experience – and indeed trophies – throughout his career, it is actually the former Saint Etienne youngster who could be the better signing for the Red Devils.

In his short time at the King Power Stadium, Fofana has certainly had a huge impact since his arrival, Brendan Rodgers even hailing him as “colossal”.

Earning £51k per week with Leicester, he has played 21 matches in the Premier League so far, claiming seven clean sheets at a rate of one every three matches.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/the-latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news-from-old-trafford-lingard-de-gea-pogba-bailly-johnstone” title=”The latest Man United transfer rumours and news from Old Trafford…”]

The 20-year-old has also averaged two tackles, 2.4 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per game in the Premier League according to WhoScored, playing a key role as Leicester continue to challenge for a place in the top four as well as having reached the FA Cup final.

Surprisingly, these statistics are considerably better than that of Real Madrid’s World Cup winning defender this season.

Varane has averaged just 0.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per match in La Liga so far this campaign – numbers that are hugely inferior to his compatriot Fofana.

Meanwhile, the current Leicester man continues to dominate Varane in the air, winning 3.4 aerials per league game compared to the Madrid man’s 2.3.

Now, it must be taken into account that Leicester are more likely to need to defend more often than Madrid but even so, taking into account that Fofana is seven years Varane’s junior, those numbers are extremely impressive.

So on the search for a centre-back and seemingly having narrowed down their potential list to two Frenchman, Manchester United should certainly look to Leicester instead of Real Madrid as they’d be getting a younger, more productive and likely cheaper option.

Bull admits Traore is missing Jimenez

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Steve Bull, who scored 306 goals for Wolves, believes Adama Traore’s poor form is partially down to the absences of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez, who he worked well with last season.

Traore has failed to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League this season, compared to the last campaign where he ended up with four goals and nine assists, and Bull believes being the only one left of their formidable trio is a big factor.

Wolves have struggled in front of goal since Jimenez fractured his skull against Arsenal last year, with nobody able to do what he does for the Midlands club in what has been a frustrating season for Nuno.

Speaking on Traore not being the same without Jota and Jimenez as well as on what has been a difficult season for Wolves, Bull told FFC exclusively:

“When we had the three of them; Jimenez, Jota and Traore they were a formidable force. When you take a piece of that jigsaw away the other two are thinking, ‘what’s going on?’

“Nuno’s had a frustrating year, it’s been like a transformation period. There’s been new players coming in and old players go out, so it takes time for them to gel.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/exclusive-andreas-sondergaard-wolves-premier-league” title=”Exclusive! Andreas Sondergaard talks all things Wolves”]

“I think Nuno signed a three-year deal at the end of last year, so we’ve got him for the next two years at least and he’ll be thinking about building for the future now.”

Wolves scored 49 times in the Premier League last season, however, they’ve only found the back of the net 26 times so far this campaign with their frustrations in front of goal obvious to see.

Traore has been good in his build-up play towards the final third but has failed to convert it into any meaningful passes or attempts at goal.

Celtic: Is this Roy Keane’s starting XI?

Celtic’s hunt for a new manager at Parkhead has really gathered pace over the last week or so. After suffering setbacks in their quest to appoint Chris Wilder and Jesse Marsch, they have identified a new man to lead the Bhoys forward.

That happens to be one of their former employers; Roy Keane.

The Manchester United legend finished his playing career in Glasgow and is now being viewed by Dermot Desmond as the man to lead Celtic’s new era.

According to reports, discussions have taken place over the role with an interview even occurring.

If he does indeed come to Scotland, how could his starting XI look next season?

This could be a significant summer of change for Celtic, both among the football hierarchy and with the playing squad.

Part of that could see Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard leave. The former has been linked with a move to AC Milan while the latter continues to be touted with a switch to the English Premier League.

Liverpool have recently been linked with his services in a deal that could see Divock Origi go in the opposite direction. As a result, he is the first notable inclusion in Keane’s starting XI.

As many as seven new signings come into the team with another difference in the Celtic attack. Ryan Christie is axed from the starting XI after his disappointing campaign, scoring just five goals. Thus, Siriki Dembele starts on the wing. He has recently been touted with a move from Peterborough on a free transfer.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-boupendza-mcgeady-marsch-mccarthy” title=”Latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

Liam Shaw, who has agreed a pre-contract, replaces Scott Brown in the middle of the park alongside Callum McGregor.

The majority of changes come in defence, an area where Celtic have often been found wanting this term. They’ve shipped 14 more goals than Rangers in the league while there’s the threat Ajer could leave.

With that in mind, Declan Gallagher comes in at centre-back. He’s regularly been tipped to make a switch to Parkhead from Motherwell.

There is no permanent move for Jonjoe Kenny at right-back so Dutch target Milan van Ewijk starts at right-back. There is a further change on the opposite side too.

Diego Laxalt is due to head back to Milan following the conclusion of his loan spell, so Romain Perraud could be signed from Brest. He nearly joined Celtic in 2019 and is now being eyed up by the Hoops hierarchy once again.

The final change is in goal where David Marshall returns to Glasgow. He is another to be tipped with a move in recent weeks.

AND in other news, Celtic could finally axe Christie by signing “outstanding” beast with 28 assists…

Villa’s Elmohamady was superb vs Wolves

While a 0-0 draw at home to Wolves in the Premier League is hardly the result Dean Smith would have wanted, one man who certainly emerged as a positive for the Aston Villa boss was Ahmed Elmohamady.

After coming in for some criticism from his manager for his role in one of Leicester’s goals a couple of weeks ago, the Egypt international followed that up with a really disappointing performance against Sheffield United.

That was then followed by reports that Smith had made the decision to let the veteran full-back go in the summer once his contract expired, with loanee Frederic Guilbert set to return to compete with number one right-back Matty Cash.

But the £25k-a-week-earning Elmohamady’s display against Wolves showed that perhaps he does still have a bit left in the tank, and sent a huge message to his boss that he’s got the defensive nous to still be an effective Premier League defender on his day.

As per Sofascore, the full-back finished with a match rating of 7.3, the highest of any outfield player for Villa. And when you look at the way he virtually pocketed Wolves speedster Adama Traore, it’s no surprise to see why.

Wolves’ wide-man failed to attempt any shots on goal whatsoever, and also didn’t manage to find the target with any of his four crosses. Much of that was down to the way Elmohamady was quick to shackle him and not allow him room to knock it past him and see him run away with his sheer pace.

The Villa full-back was dominant in the challenge, making two tackles and one interception, while he also won an impressive five of his six total duels on the night – that latter stat is far above his season average in the Premier League of just 2.3 per game.

Writing in his post-match player ratings for The Birmingham Mail, Ashley Preece said: “The Egyptian contained Traore and won his fair share of headers at the back post.

“The 33-year-old came in for a lot of stick after his error at Sheffield United but he was back to his usual, reliable self here and did what was asked of him against the jet-heeled Adama. Kept a clean sheet and was generally fine in Matty Cash’s absence once again.”

While one impressive display is hardly enough to convince Smith or any manager for that fact, of handing someone a new contract, it does raise the possibility of Elmohamady potentially earning another deal at the club with some more good performances like the one on Saturday.

Coming up against Traore is a hard task for any defender in the Premier League, let alone a 33-year-old in the twilight of his career. And yet, Elmohamady delivered a masterclass just when his long-term future is the main topic of conversation.

Meanwhile, this Villa man let Dean Smith down vs Wolves…
